35,000 more people left Ireland than arrived here in 2012, Eurostat figures show
Yes you read right the stats are in! According to Eurostat Ireland has the highest emigration rate in Europe!
Not surprising really when you live in Australia you really do feel like you living in Ireland! Its great for our community in Australia but not so much for Ireland!
The European Commission’s statistics office figures show 35,000 more people left Ireland than arrived last year.
Despite high levels of emigration from Ireland, the population continued to grow in 2012, the Eurostat figures also show. Ireland had the highest birth rate and the lowest death rate in the European Union, resulting in the highest natural population growth.
What does this mean for Ireland in the coming years? There is always reports that un-employment rates are down on a year by year basis but do they include the amount of people that have left?? Is there really less people on the dole or just less people in the country!
Economists view net population loss through emigration as particularly damaging! What are your views?
