New data released in ATO’s annual Taxation Statistics report revealed the top 10 occupations in every Australian state based on the average taxable income.

How does your salary compare to the list of the top 10 highest paid jobs in Australia in 2016?

I don’t know what happened to 2016; it seemed to fly by, but then again so does every year.

You might remember in 2014 we published an article on the top 10 highest paid jobs per hour in Australia, but this year we felt it more appropriate to share the top 10 highest paid jobs in Australia, based on their yearly salary.

Whether or not this makes you change your job profession; some people are getting some serious coin in Australia.

The lowest earning jobs are mostly those requiring no specific qualifications like that of fruit pickers, newspaper delivery persons, fast food cooks, dishwashers and restaurant helpers.

So what were the highest paid jobs in Australia in 2016? Let’s find out:

Gastroenterologist $415,192

9th Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Vascular surgeon $417,524

8th Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Urologist $433,792

7th Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Orthopedic surgeon $439,629

6th highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Otorhinolaryngologist $445,939

5th Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Gynaecologist; Obstetrician $446,507

4th Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Plastic and reconstructive surgeon $448,530

3rd Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Cardiologist $453,253

2nd Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Ophthalmologist $552,947

The Highest Paid Job In Australia 2016: 

Neurosurgeon $577,674

That is some crazy money! What is clear to see from the data is that male neurosurgeons have the highest salary in the country, taking home a whopping $577,674 a year.

However, female neurosurgeons take home $323,682 a year, almost 44 less compared to their male counterparts.



The highest paid job for a woman was that of a Judge who is paid $355,844 a year, just a few thousands more than a female neurosurgeon.

The entire list points out glaring difference between male and female wages.
